Five Crusaders named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the 2016-17 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. Five members from the University of Dallas men’s basketball team qualified for the list.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Dallas nominated Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Man of the Year. Today, the conference released that Kaiser was one-of-six finalists for the recognition. A 2017 graduate and four-year player for the men’s basketball program, Kaiser represented the Crusaders well both on and off the court.

IRVING, Texas – On Sunday the University of Dallas Athletic Department celebrated the fourth annual athletic banquet held at Haggar University Center on campus. Each coach for the 15 NCAA affiliated programs were asked to summarize the year for their teams. The team-voted Most Valuable Players (MVPS) were announced and handed out. Coaches also noted other conference achievements, program records, and student-athlete milestones.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its ninth annual winter All-Sportsmanship teams. A total of 30 student-athletes were selected to the 2016-17 squad in the sports of men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming and diving and women's swimming and diving.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – On Saturday, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) released the All-SCAC Men’s Basketball Teams. The University of Dallas had a trio of recipients named Honorable Mention. Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas), Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas), and Darrius Colvin (Waco, Texas) all were tabbed.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – In an announcement made today at league headquarters, Johnson & Wales University (Denver) has accepted membership into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), becoming the ninth member of the NCAA Division III league.

IRVING, Texas – For the second time in three games, the University of Dallas men’s basketball team prevailed in extra regulation to complete a 2-1 home stand. Dallas (9-16) concludes the 2016-17 campaign similarly to how it began with an overtime victory against Hendrix College (11-14). The Crusaders moved to 3-1 on the year in overtime contests after a 101-98 final on Sunday. The triple-digit total is the third time this season UD has eclipsed the mark and are unblemished in those games.

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men’s basketball team closed the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) part of its season with a 65-60 setback at the Maher Center on Saturday. Darrius Colvin (Waco, Texas) scored the Crusaders’ (8-16, 2-12 SCAC) final 13 points on six field goals, but Colorado College (10-14, 10-4 SCAC) held on to earn a tie for second in the conference standings.

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men’s basketball achieved its first double overtime win on Tuesday night since January 5, 2013 at Southwestern University (73-71). The only other contest to go into a second extra period since that tip was at the end of last month at Trinity (92-91).

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas men’s basketball team fell in a 41-23 deficit through the first 20 minutes on Saturday to Texas Lutheran University. Despite chipping away in the second half nearly getting within single-digits, the Crusaders (7-15, 2-11 SCAC) could not overcome the gap in their final road contest of the year at Texas Lutheran (15-9, 9-4 SCAC). The setback officially eliminates Dallas from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament. The Bulldogs remain tied for 2nd with Colorado College, who UD closes conference with at home a week from now.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas men’s basketball team dropped a 90-81 final at Southwestern University on Friday night. Dallas (7-14, 2-10 SCAC) trailed by one at halftime, but a 22-8 run for about the remaining eight minutes of the second half helped the Pirates (12-11, 7-5 SCAC) secure the win.
