Five Crusaders named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the 2016-17 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. Five members from the University of Dallas men's basketball team qualified for the list.

Solomon Berezin (League City, Texas), Alex Borse (Denver, Ind.), Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas), Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.), and Rory MacCallum (Golden, Colo.) formed the quintet. Out of six institutions in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the Crusaders were second among programs in total number named. Only Austin College had more with eight players.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.

Kaiser was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) all three seasons eligible. He also made it to the SCAC Winter Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll just as many occasions. He capped his time at UD by being nominated for SCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Classmate Gonzalez was another student-athlete that excelled in the classroom. The starting point guard these past two seasons achieved the SCAC Winter Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll three straight years of eligibility, too.

Berezin, Borse, and MacCallum round out the trio of Crusaders listed and will be rising seniors in 2017-18.
