Carmona Breaks his Own Record in Hammer at SCAC Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's track and field team concluded the 2017 season on Friday and Saturday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship hosted by Trinity University. Texas Lutheran University scored 272 points to win the team title. Trinity (221) and Colorado College (79) rounded out the top three places, respectively.

Despite being faced with deep competition in the rest of the conference, the Crusaders enjoyed several improved marks this season. Headlining the squad was Marcos Carmona (San Antonio, Texas) in the field events. For the second straight year, Carmona shattered the Hammer Throw record with a 34.45 Meters result. Before last season, the record had been held since the inaugural year of the program in 1908.

NOTABLE RESULTS

- Carmona would take eighth place in the Hammer Throw with his new personal record (PR) and school record. His previous distance (102'6") occurred in 2016 at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on April 30.

- Paulo Salazar (Dallas, Texas) was another thrower to get a PR. His result in the Discus (34.68m) was sixth best in conference and notched a point.

- Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas) sprinted in the 100 Meter Dash with a season best time of 10.97 seconds for sixth.

- Kevin McGuirk (Front Royal, Va.) secured two PRs in the Triple Jump (11.20m) and 400m Hurdles (1:01.11).

- Dominic Del Curto (Oakdale, Calif.) was another UD runner to PR on the 400m Hurdles with a 1:00.90 result. He and McGuirk finished back-to-back for eighth and ninth.

- Frank Villanueva (Anthem, Ariz.) capped his freshman campaign with a PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:57.60.

- Both Relay Teams notched Season Best times on the year and scored a pair of points apiece. In the 4x100m, Del Curto, McGuirk, Thomas Pierick (Des Moines, Iowa), and Giadolor combined for a time of 44.20 seconds. In the 4x400m Relay, that same quartet etched a 3:39.03.
