UD Athletics Events (April 9-11)

The University of Dallas athletics department prepares for a busy weekend that will have nine programs in action, including four at home. Last weekend was Easter and a chance for the student-athletes to get a break, although it varied depending on when some teams played and/or if played at all.

This weekend’s slate features the final regular season games for soccer and volleyball. Both home soccer teams and women’s lacrosse will recognize its seniors after the respective contests. Men’s lacrosse also has its home opener slated and baseball will host its second conference series and fourth overall as it reaches the midway point in the league games.

Softball at No. 3 Texas Lutheran University (Friday at 7 PM, Saturday at 12 PM (DH))

The Crusaders finished a 10-game home stand and are 2-11 overall and 2-10 in SCAC games. Their last series with University of St. Thomas went 0-3, but the first two games in the series could have gone either way in 2-0 and 5-4 finals.

Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Texas), Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.), and Brenna Kelly (Missouri City, Texas) are the top three hitters with 13, 12, and 10, respectively. Cordova has knocked eight doubles. Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) has logged a team-high 40.2 innings.

No. 3 Texas Lutheran enters 20-4 overall and 11-0 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs polished a sweep over Schreiner University last week with 8-0 and 11-1 victories. Kelly Jurden and Rebecca Snow are the top hitters with 33 apiece. Snow has 10 doubles and 35 RBI to lead both categories. She has a pair of home runs as well. Sydney Ouellette and Ashlyn Strother are the top two pitchers with over 50 innings and 16 combined wins. Strother has 61 strikeouts.

Track & Field at East Texas Invite (Saturday)

Dallas picks things back up after a week off by competing at the East Texas Invite hosted by NCAA DII Texas A&M-Commerce. This race will feature the 10,000 Meters, which some Crusaders should be getting experience in.

Volleyball at Texas Lutheran University (Saturday at 10 AM, 2 PM)

A crucial doubleheader is on the docket in determining potential last SCAC Tournament seeds when Dallas and Texas Lutheran meet up. At the moment four teams including these two and Schreiner University and Centenary College have three wins total. Dallas and Centenary are 3-9 due to cancelled games, while TLU and Schreiner are 3-11 with all games on the schedule completed.

TLU and Schreiner played a couple days ago to makeup postponed games and the Bulldogs completed the sweep.

Dallas split last weekend with Schreiner at home by winning 3-0 and losing 3-1. The team also split two weeks ago at Centenary College by taking the first match and dropping the second in five.

Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) and Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) will be looked to as the top hitters with both over 100 kills. Larissa Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas) leads the team in assists but has split time of late with Paiten Baesa (Rockwall, Texas).

TLU is led offensively by Hayden Smyers with 117 kills and 14 service aces and is second in digs with 147. Lexi Morris has recorded 243 digs for a team-best.

Baseball vs. Texas Lutheran University (Saturday 12 PM (DH), Sunday 1 PM)

Dallas will host a three-game series with the Bulldogs. The Crusaders are 5-13 overall and 3-6 in conference after being swept a weekend ago at No. 17 Centenary College. Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) set the career doubles record with 41.

TLU is 14-7 overall and 6-0 in conference play. So far the Bulldogs have taken three-game sweeps over Austin College and most recently University of St. Thomas. The first and last games in that series were 7-4.  

The last time these teams met was in Irving in 2019, when UD prevailed 4-3 in 12 innings. That was after 11-0 (F/8) and 18-1 (F/7) losses the previous day.

Men’s Soccer vs. Southwestern University (Saturday 1 PM)

Dallas will play its final regular season match at home against Southwestern University. The Crusaders are 2-4-1 on the year and in conference play. UD is coming off a 5-2 road setback. Ethan Johnson (Los Ranchos, N.M.) and Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas) netted goals and Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) added an assist. Reynolds ranks second in the SCAC for points with nine and is third in goals scored with three.

The Pirates are 3-0-2 overall and in the league. The most recent result was a 2-0 triumph over Centenary College at home. They tied Trinity University and Colorado College the previous weeks. Jackson DeHaven is the only Southwestern scorer with multiple goals and has two. Four other individuals have tallied a mark in the goal column for SU. Jack Viles has worked all 490 minutes and is the leader in the conference with a .849 save percentage.  

These teams tied 1-1 in Georgetown back in 2019, which was the last meeting on the pitch between the programs.

Following the match, nine seniors were to be recognized as part of “Senior Day”. This large group for men’s soccer consists of: Caleb Strange (Argyle, Texas), Reynolds, Cody Briggs (Houston, Texas), Nate Riddle (Millsboro, Del.), Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas), Kajiwara, Nicholas Opsahl (Boerne, Texas), Joe Christopherson (Swanton, Ohio), and Brady McNamara (San Antonio, Texas).    

Men’s Golf at Rhodes Spring Collegiate (Sunday and Monday)

The Crusaders will play their final tournament before conference with a two-day event hosted by Rhodes College at Mirimichi Golf Course in Millington, Tennessee.

Women’s Lacrosse vs. Colorado College (Sunday 11 AM)

Dallas is home after about a month off and will host the 2019 SCAC Tournament Champions Colorado College. UD is 0-3 on the season. Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) is being recognized after the game for “Senior Day.” She is the top scorer on the team with five goals.

The Tigers are 1-2 with its first win over Colorado State University a couple days ago with a 10-7 score. CC will play at Southwestern University on Saturday before heading north to DFW for Sunday’s tilt. Two players have six points with Bella Beattie boasting a team-most five goals. Bridget Hanley has garnered three goals and assists for her points.

Men’s Lacrosse vs. Southwestern University (Sunday 2 PM)

Dallas is 0-2 on the year and looks to play its first home game against conference foe Southwestern. Matt Senter is the top scorer with five goals and Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) follows with three. Michael White (Colleyville, Texas) has over 20 saves in both appearances.

Southwestern is 5-4 on the season and just defeated Centenary 27-3 a week ago. The Pirates are 4-3 in away games. Zac Asbury has been the player to watch offensively with 40 points thanks to 18 goals and 22 assists. All three categories are team-bests. Nick Doxey has tallied 16 goals and Jacob Hamilton tops the double-digits group out with 13. There two more guys right behind at nine goals.
