UD Athletics Upcoming Schedule (April 1-3)

The University of Dallas athletics department will have games on a slightly different schedule this week with it being Easter Weekend. The Crusaders softball and volleyball programs are home, while both soccer teams and baseball are away.

Over the past weekend, all three traditional fall sport teams picked up a victory, and baseball claimed the series finale with a season-high 17 runs on Sunday over Southwestern University.

Below are the schedules of games for the Crusaders.

Softball vs. University of St. Thomas (Thursday DH, 1 PM | Friday 12 PM)

Dallas dropped a three-game series to Centenary College over the weekend. After falling 8-0 (F/5) and 7-2 on Saturday, the Crusaders played a competitive game three and were edged 4-1 on Sunday.

UD (2-8, 2-7 SCAC) will wrap up a season-long, 10-game home stand this Thursday and Friday. Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Texas) is the top hitter with a .379 batting average and 11 hits. She has hit two home runs and doubles. Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) is the leader on the squad for RBI with seven. She also has seven doubles in nine outings. Brenna Kelly (Missouri City, Texas) and Cordova are tied for second on the team with 10 hits. Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) has thrown a team-high 28 innings and has 18 strikeouts. Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) is the other pitcher with at least 20 innings and has hurled 27.2 and completed three games.   

This is the inaugural campaign for the Celts (12-8, 7-2 SCAC). They have won all three of their SCAC series thus far and are coming off a series win at home versus Trinity University. After winning the first two, 5-0 and 6-3, the Celts were edged 4-3. Mia Terry is the leader on the team with a .494 batting average and 41 hits. Her 20 runs scored rank second on the team. Mallarie Munson and Brenna Ruether are tied for second in the SCAC with three homers. Lindsey Longuet tops the conference in wins (8) and strikeouts (64). She has thrown 85 innings, while the next highest pitcher in innings totaled has 38.2.

Women’s Soccer at University of St. Thomas (Thursday, 3 PM)

Dallas improved to 3-2 on the season and in conference after hanging onto a 2-1 road with at Austin College last Saturday. It will be a quick turnaround for the Crusaders with the Thursday matchup. This is also the last regular season road match for UD, which has won both meetings thus far away from the home confines.

Alyssa Mencacci (League City, Texas) broke into the scoring column this spring and had what would be counted as the game-winning goal against the ‘Roos. She was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, her second time in as many seasons the sophomore claimed the honor. Maddie Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) scored her second goal of the season to get UD on the board late in the first half at Austin College.

St. Thomas (1-3, 1-2 SCAC) is coming off a 10-0 setback to Trinity University a few days ago on Monday. The Celts lone win this season was a 1-0 final at home versus Schreiner University. That goal has been the only one scored for UST and was an own goal. Carmen Lozada has worked all 360 minutes in goal and picked up 25 saves.

These teams met in 2019 with the Celts winning in Houston, 3-0. That match counted as non-conference, but the Crusaders would win the league game in Irving by a 2-1 score.

Baseball at No. 17 Centenary College (Friday DH, 12 PM | Saturday 1 PM)

Dallas picked up a game against Southwestern University to salvage one win out of the three-game series last weekend in its first home weekend contests. The Crusaders are 5-10 on the spring season and 3-3 in SCAC play. Dallas is 2-6 in away games, but both wins were at conference foe Schreiner two weekends ago.

Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) stood out with a 4-4 game, two runs, two RBI, double, and walk in the UD victory over Southwestern University.

Centenary College improved its ranking to No. 17 in the latest 2021 D3baseball.com/NCBWA Week 5 poll. The Gents (20-2) have won 14 straight and are 13-1 in last 14 home games dating to beginning of 2020 season. They swept Schreiner University in a trio of one-run finals last weekend. Volleyball vs. Schreiner University (Saturday DH, 10 AM & 2 PM)

Dallas plays its final home games this Saturday against Schreiner University. The Crusaders split last weekend at Centenary College with a 3-1 win and 3-2 setback. Both games featured several close sets that were within three-points or fewer and had a couple go beyond 25 points.

Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) paced the offense in both games with season-highs 16 and 19 kills in each. She added six blocks and four service aces in the second match. Larissa Ramirez combined for 82 assists with 39 and 41, respectively. Whyte is the overall leader in kills with 94, while Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) is near-by with 80. Dallas as a team holds a 94-83 edge in points in the fourth set this season.

Both Dallas and Schreiner are tied for seventh in the league standings with 2-8 records.

Schreiner was on a bye week and last played at Centenary also. The Mountaineers fell in five sets in the first game and won in four in the second. Look for Kayla Lofland to lead the attack with 90 kills on the year for a team-best. Emily De Hoyos and Mia Moreno have shared the setting duty and have 129 and 111 assists, respectively. Elora Reys has picked up 138 digs to lead the team.

These teams last met in 2019, with the Crusaders taking both wins in the series. The first was a 3-0 sweep at Centenary in the neutral site pod weekend. The other was also a sweep and in the Maher Center. Whyte and Porras combined for 25 of the team’s 41 kills and Ramirez had 39 assists.

Following the second match, the volleyball program will recognize senior Gillian De La Cruz (Lewisville, Texas).

Men’s Soccer at Colorado College (Saturday 11 AM) (MST)

The University of Dallas men’s soccer team will head to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to play its fourth road match in the last five outings.

The Crusaders (2-3-1) scored three goals for the first time this spring and also finished in a result not determined by a goal in the 3-1 victory at Austin College. Brady McNamara (San Antonio, Texas) put in two goals for the difference and Karson Pannell (Southlake, Texas) earned his first points with the third goal. Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) added an assist to his team-leading eight points.

Colorado College (3-1-1, 3-0-1 SCAC) blanked Centenary 2-0 last weekend at its home confines. Kiran Singh is the lone multi-scoring player with three goals. Seven different Tigers have found the back of the netting this year. Keleher Felton has amassed 17 saves in 467:06 minutes.

These teams last met in Irving in 2019 with CC winning 2-1. The last time UD was in Colorado was October 7, 2018 in a 1-0 setback.
