Women's Cross Country Compete at Naimadu Classic, Ramp Up for Conference

October 13, 2023

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Dallas women's cross country team competed in the Niamadu Classic 6k hosted by Abilene Christian University on Friday.  The Crusaders raced shorthanded as Madeline Hilker was unavailable for today's meet.

Oral Roberts were the team champions with a total time of 1:51:57 and 23 points, and Patricia Mazzei of Oral Roberts took home the individual title with a final time of 22:02.09.

Teresa Cashen lead the way for UD in 34th place with a time of 26:37.06, setting a new PR by shaving almost a minute off her previous best.  Bre Looney was next in 43rd place, also setting a new PR by cutting over two minutes off her previous best with a time of 28:45.06.

Giselle Avalos (pictured) made her return to the lineup after missing the Old Glory Gallop due to injury, and demolished her previous best by nearly two and a half minutes with a time of 29:44.41.  Melissa Gabino finished in 47th place, finishing in 32:48.03, her best 6k time of the season by nearly five minutes.  Brenda Chicas rounded out the field for Dallas with a time of 51:27.2.

"Since we didn't have a full team for today, we were more focused on indivudual results and being tuned up for the conference meet," said head coach Nick Schneigert.  "Our freshman did absolutely amazing, PR's top to bottom so I'm very proud of them all.  We definitely have a great future ahead of us."

This was the final meet of the regular season for the Crusaders.  All that remains is the SCAC Championship on Oct. 28, which will be hosted by Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
