September 2, 2023

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Dallas women's cross country team got off to a strong start to their season at the Nicole Leman Invitational, hosted by LeTourneau University.

In a strong field of NCAA Division III and NAIA programs, the Crusaders took fourth place in the field of five teams with a score of 90 and an average time of 28:05 in the three mile race.

Teresa Cashen had an excellent showing in her collegiate debut, finishing in the top 10 with a time of 21:48.0, leading the pack for UD.  Breanna Looney was not far off, taking 12th place with a time of 21:13.2, and Giselle Avalos rounded out Dallas' top three in 17th place with a time of 23:52.9.

Melissa Gabino finished in 29:01.9, and Brenda Chicas came in at 43:24.8.

"We love this meet, it's a nice flat course and a great way to shake the cobwebs off at the start of the season," said head coach Nick Schneigert.  "It was thrilling to see our newest recruits shine in their first collegiate meet."

Up next, the Crusaders will host their home meet, the University of Dallas Cross Country Invitational.  The meet is set to be held on Saturday, Sept. 9.
