Women's Cross Country wraps up season at NCAA South Regional
BERRY, Ga. – The University of Dallas women's cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III South Regionals on Saturday. As a team, the Lady Crusaders finished 16th out of 29 schools posting a combined 2:05:05.66 and reflected a score of 454.
Over 200 competitors participated in the Regional Race on Saturday, and senior Clare Myers (Grosse Pointe, Minn.) paced the navy and white with a team-high 23:55 minutes for 49th place. Her time in the 6K broke the school record set previously by herself.
The senior also has a chance to notch All-Academic All-American by finishing in the top 25 percent of the field. Myers just needs to clinch a 3.3 GPA at the end of the semester to claim the accolade.
Coming in 77th was junior Ruth Fritz (Boise, Idaho) at a 24:40.90 time. Senior Colleen Slattery (Middle Ridge, Wis.) broke into the top 100 final rankings with a 95th finish, and recorded a time of 25:10.40.
Seniors Meghan Falconer (Kohler, Wis.) and Danielle Pajak (Pagosa Springs, Colo.) contributed solid scores with a 25:30.69 and 25:48.67, respectively. Juniors Elizabeth Hinchley (Magnolia, Texas) and Emma Polefko (Cypress, Texas) added a 26:26.73 and 27:08.
A quartet of racers for Dallas set personal records in the tournament. Those included: Fritz, Myers, Polefko, and Slattery.
Emory College won the overall competition with a 62 and totaled 1:54:15.79 as a unit. Barely claiming second place in the standings with a 124 was Christopher Newport, who just edged Centre College by a single point.
This concludes the 2014 season for the Dallas women's cross country team.
