Volleyball Ends Season with Three Game Homestand

November 4, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team hosted Austin College, Millsaps College, and LeTourneau University, playing three games across Friday and Saturday.

The Crusaders played Austin College on Friday night for their final conference match of the season.  Dallas came out strong in the first set, recording 14 kills while hitting .152 to win set one 25-21.  They were just as sharp in set two, but Austin came out with the edge to take the set 25-23.

The Roos settled into the game and Dallas struggled to find that same rhythm in sets three and four.  Austin took set three 25-20, then sealed the match with a 25-15 win in set four to win the match 3-1.

With her 32 assists on the night, Ava Alvarado eclipsed the 1,000 mark for the season.

On Saturday the Crusaders had the first game of the day, playing Millsaps College at 10:00 am.  Once again they came out strong in the first two sets, winning set one 25-22 on the back of a phenomenal offensive performance, recording 12 kills on just one error to hit .306.  The Majors bounced back and won a hotly contested second set 26-24.

Dallas stumbled a bit in set three, as Millsaps won the set comfortably 25-18, but came right back for a hard-fought fourth set.  Trailing by four points deep in the set, the Crusaders closed the gap and tied it up at 25-25, but the Majors held on to take the set 27-25 to win the match 3-1.

The Crusaders faced LeTourneau in their final match of the season, the fourth match of an action-packed Saturday.

Dallas couldn't find their footing in the first set, breaking even with eight kills on eight errors as the Yellowjackets cruised to a 25-15 win.  The Crusaders bounced back with a monster second set, racking up 15 kills while hitting .400 to take the set 25-16.  They were almost as good in set three, winning by a comfortable six point margin 25-19.

The Yellowjackets answered back with a big 25-15 win in set four, sending the match to a decisive fifth set.  The two sides matched each other blow for blow early on, but LeTourneau steadily pulled away, sealing the match with a 15-12 win in set five.

Playing in the final match of her career, Cassie Dyoub led the Crusaders with 15 kills.  With her 14 kills against Millsaps, the senior outside hitter eclipsed the 900 mark for her career, finishing her career with 914 kills.
