St. Thomas Defeats Crusaders in Tight Battle

October 7, 2023

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team lost their conference match against the University of St. Thomas (TX) 3-1 on Saturday.  They fall to 11-10 on the season and 1-7 in conference play.

The match was tightly contested from start to finish.  St. Thomas took set one, pulling away late after the two teams traded blows for much of the set.  Then Dallas came roaring out of the gates in the second set, leading by as many as 10 points only for St. Thomas to fight all the way back to within two.  The Crusaders held them off and finished the set 25-22.

St. Thomas recaptured the momentum in set three, leading by as many as eight points, and this time Dallas battled their way back all the way to within one point of the lead.  Just as the Crusaders had done in the previous set, the Celts managed to hang on to close out the set 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Celts carried their momentum into set four, scoring five anaswered points to open the set.  Despite the Crusaders quickly finding their footing after that, they never cut the deficit under five points as the Celts closed out the set 25-18 to seal the 3-1 win.

Kaitlyn Johnson (pictured) lead all players with one of the best offensive performances of her career, tallying 11 kills with just one error while hitting .417.  Devin Henry lead the team with 13 kills, and Ava Alvarado lead all players with 31 assists.
