Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Millsaps Invitational

September 16, 2023

JACKSON, Miss. - The University of Dallas volleyball team played in the Millsaps College Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  They went 2-1 on the weekend, defeating Huntingdon College 3-1, Belhvane 3-0, and losing to Millsaps 3-1 to improve to 8-3 on the year.

The Crusaders were firmly in control for most of the match against Huntingdon; they came out and dominated the first set, winning 25-12 ehile notching 12 kills on just two errors.  They took set two 25-21 before letting their grip slip ever so slightly in set three, which the Hawks won 25-22.

Dallas bounced right back with another dominant set, taking set four 25-15 while hitting .370 as a team to secure the win.

In their first game on Saturday, the Crusaders had a rematch with Belhaven, just one week after taking the Blazers to five sets and escaping with the victory.  While this match was just as hotly contested, the Crusaders were excellent on both sides of the ball to defeat the Blazers in straight sets.  Their service game played a key role in the victory, as the Crusaders racked up nine aces with six errors while the Blazers struggled, notching just three aces with 11 errors.

The Crusaders faced the hosts in their final game on Saturday, and had a tough time finding their rhythm against the Majors.  Dallas hit just .125 in set one and .000 in set two as Millsaps took the first two sets.  The Crusaders came back in set three with a 15 kill/ 5 error/.256 performance to take the set 25-23 and force a fourth set.  But the wheels came off in set four, as the Majors cruised to a 25-13 win to take the match 3-1.
