MARSHALL, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team participated in the East Texas Baptist Invitational Tournament this weekend, playing four games in two days.  The Crusaders split right down the middle, going 2-2 on the weekend and are now 6-2 on the year.

Their first match on Friday against Hendrix saw the Crusaders handed their first loss of the season in a tightly fought contest.  Dallas were at their best in the first set, racking up 18 kills while hitting .229 as team to win 25-23.  From there, it was Hendrix who had the slight edge as the Crusaders never quite reached the same heights.  The Warriors went on to win 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20 to defeat Dallas 3-1.

Dallas bounced back against Millsaps in their second match of the day.  They were particularly dominat in sets one and three, where they combined for 31 kills on just seven errors to hit .316.  They won the first set by a commanding score of 25-14, then won sets two and three 25-18, 25-18 to sweep the Majors and pick up their fifth win of the season.

The Crusaders opened play on Saturday against Belhaven, who went into the match still searching for their first win of the season at 0-6.  Dallas simply dominated the first two sets, defeating the Blazers 25-10 and 25-16 whil hitting over .400 as a team.  But Belhaven came back from the brink of defeat and stunned the Crusaders, winning sets three and four 25-19 and 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.  Dallas led the fifth set by as many as five points, but the Blazers fought back to make it 13-13.  In the end, the Crusaders managed to scrap out the win with a kill by Cassie Dyoub, and a game-ending setting error by the Blazers.

In their final game of the weekend, the Crusaders faced the hosts, ETBU, who were much the better side.  The Tigers were in control from start to finish, winning in straight sets to hand Dallas their second loss of the season.

Ava Alvarado was selected to the All-Tournament team, as she racked up 125 assists in four games.
