Volleyball Splits Double-Header to Wrap up Season

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2022 season with a pair of conference matches on Saturday.  They defeated Centenary College in straight sets, and lost the Austin College 3-1.

The Crusaders fell behind early in set one, but quickly gained control of the match with a 10-4 scoring run to go ahead 14-10.  They only continued to pull away, taking set one by a comfortable 25-15 margin.

The story was very different in set two, with the two sides trading points all the way to the end.  It would take extras to decide the match, but the Crusaders took the set 26-24.

The Ladies grabbed the early lead again in set three, but once again UD had the answer.  They came from behind and staved off a late push by Centenary to win set three 25-21 and complete the sweep.

Dallas came out strong against Austin, holding the Roos to under 10 kills and a .023 hitting percentage in set one.  They took an early 7-1 lead and never let it go, leading by as many as nine points en route to a 25-19 set win.

Things were much tighter in set two as the two sides went back and forth trading the lead.  The Roos took the lead for the final time about midway through the set, but the Crusaders were never far off, pulling themselves to within two points late in the proceedings.  Austin had the edge though, and took set two 25-20.

Set three was more of the same.  Austin led by as many as six points, but Dallas once again found themselves within striking distance late in the set, trailing 22-20.  But the Roos rattled off three points to finish the set, going into set four with the 2-1 set advantage.

Dallas kept things close early on in set four, but the Roos steadily built themselves a lead.  A 9-3 run by Austin gave them the 25-16 win in set four to complete the sweep.

After the match, the Crusaders celebrated three seniors, who played in their final match for UD: Chloe Ilagan, Paiten Baesa, and Larissa Ramirez.

From everyone at UD Athletics, thank you for all you have done!  We look forward to seeing what your futures have in store.
