Crusaders Take Down Schreiner in Five, Split Double-Header

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas women's volleyball team played a pair of conference matches on Friday, defeating Schreiner 3-2 and losing to #4 Trinity 3-1.  They are now 8-17 on the year and 2-11 in conference play.

The Mountaineers offense came out swinging at a blilstering pace, notching 15 kills on just two errors while hitting .406 to take set one by a comfrotable 25-16 margin.  but Dallas would bounce right back in set two, battling out a 25-23 win while hilding Schreiner to under 10 kills in the set; they would limit the Mountaineers to just eight kills per set for the rest of the match.

Dallas jumped out to an early lead in set three, but Schreiner battled back to level it up at 16-16.  In response, the Crusaders went on a 9-1 run to take set three 25-17.  Set four was back and forth most of the way, but Schreiner pulled away late to take a 24-18 lead.   The Crusaders rattled off five straight points to bring themselves within one, but the Mountaineers staved off the comeback and took the set 25-23 to force set five.

Schreiner took the early lead at 4-1, but a stellar 10-2 run gave Dallas the lead for good, taking set five 15-11 to win the match.

In their second match of the day, Trinity started off with a comfortable 25-15 win, but the Crusaders gave them a run for their money in set two.  The two sides traded the lead a handful of times, and Dallas clung to a 23-22 lead late in the set.  But Trinity scored three unanswered point to take set two 25-23.

The Crusaders stunned the Tigers with a dominant performance in set three, taking a very early lead and never relinquishing it.  They maintained a seven or eight point lead for much of the set and ended up forcing set four with a 25-16 win.

Trinity responded in kind, taking a 2-1 lead in set four and keeping the lead for the entire set.  They won set four 25-10 to seal the 3-1 win.
