Women's Volleyball Drops a Trio of Conference Games

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's volleyball team lost three conference matches over the weekend, dropping to 7-15 on the year and 1-9 in conference play.  They lost to Southwestern and Texas Lutheran in straight sets on Friday, and 3-1 to St. Thomas on Saturday.

The Crusaders were able to cut into double-digit deficits in sets one and two against Southwestern to keep themselves within striking distance, but could not overcome those deficits completely as the Pirates won both sets 25-18.  Southwestern left no doubt as to who would win set three, scoring 13 unanswered points to start set three.  It was much more even from there, but Dallas couldn't dig themselves out of the hole as the Pirates completed the sweep.

Things were tight in the early goings of sets one and two against Texas Lutheran, and Dallas were very much in the game deep into those sets.  They trailed 21-18 in set one and 20-17 in set two, but the Bulldogs were able to string points together to close out both sets.  The Crusaders kept it close for a good chunk of set three, only chasing two at 12-10.  But a 10-2 scoring run gave TLU plenty of daylight to see out the win and complete the sweep.

Against St. Thomas, the Crusaders came out ready to play.  In a hotly contested, back-and-forth opening set, the Crusaders managed to pull away with two points at the end to take set one 25-23.  The Celts came righyt back in set two, however, cruising to a 25-10 win.  The rest of the match would play out similarly to set one, but this time St. Thomas had the edge, pulling away 25-22 in set three and taking set four 25-20 to win the match 3-1.
