Crusaders Battle St. Thomas, Drop Two Matches

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's volleyball team dropped both of their conference matches today.  They were swept 3-0 by #7 Colorado College, and lost 3-1 in a hard fought match with St. Thomas.

It was a tough task for the Crusaders to face Colorado College, who are ranked seventh in  the nation with a 24-4 record.  The Tigers controlled the match from start to finish, keeping the Crusaders under 10 points in sets one and three.  It was a much more even fight in set two, with the Crusaders pulling themselves to within two points.  But the Tigers were able to see out set two 25-20, completing the sweep.

Their second match against St. Thomas could have easily gone either way.  You could hardly separate the two teams, they were nearly dead even in kills, aces, and total points scored; the Crusaders actually had one more kill and one more ace than their opponents, while celts held the slim advantage with 60 points to UD's 57.  But the Celts were  dominant at the net, recording three solo blocks and 10 block assists while UD had just two of each.  That paired with some slightly better finishing was enough for the Celts to separate themselves in the match.  Despite a dominant third set by the Crusaders to force a fourth set, the Celts saw out the win by taking set four 25-17.

Dayjah whyte led the team with 14 kills while hitting .387, and Cassie Dyoub had another double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
