Women's Volleyball Edged Out by HSU

ABILENE, Texas - UD women's volleyball were looking to bounce back after facing some tough competition in the Hendrix Warrior Invitational last weekend.  Despite playing a really tight game, the Crusaders fell in straight sets to Hardin-Simmons University (16-25, 23-25, 23-25).

The Crusaders got off to a bit of a slow start in set one, with the Cowgirls bossing the proceedings.  UD hit .049 in the set with nine kills, while HSU hit .317 with 16 kills and just three errors.

UD were back on track and firing on all cylinders in the second set, notching 13 kills with just four errors.  They led by as many as six points, taking an 11-5 lead early on in the set.  The Cowgirls tied it up at 14-14, and from there it was anybody's game.  The Cowgirls had the slight advantage in the second half of the set, but the Crusaders nearly leveled it up at 22-23.  But HSU notched a couple of kills to seal the deal at 23-25.

HSU came out strong in the third set, taking a quick 7-1 lead, but the Crusaders came all the way back, taking a 19-17 lead deep in the set.  It was once again anyone's game, but the Cowgirls were able to come back themselves and steal the set 23-25, completing the sweep.

Casey Dyoub led the team in kills and digs, with 11 and 15, respectively.  Larissa Ramirez racked up 21 assists on the night.
