Crusaders Volleyball goes 0-2 vs. Colorado College in Season-Opening Day

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team started the season out with a pair of setbacks to Colorado College on Saturday in the Maher Center. The Tigers improved to 4-0, while Dallas dropped to 0-2.

Match 1 (Set Scores: 25-18, 25-13, 25-15)

The Crusaders were led by Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) with six kills. Moriah Delgado (Fort Worth, Texas) had 10 digs in her debut as the libero.

Colorado College managed 14 kills in all three sets and started out the day with an effective .414 percentage in the opening set. Allie Freeburg led the top quartet of Tigers with kills by knocking nine. Isabella Vasquez and Isabella Lipacis had eight apiece. Georgia Mullens followed with seven. The Tigers earned six blocks and had a pair in double-digits for total digs.

Match 2 (Set Scores: 25-14, 25-20, 25-16)

This game had a bit more competitiveness to it, as a ball handling error by the Tigers followed a Porras kill to make it 12-10. CC rolled off seven straight points to widen the gap too much. In the middle set the Crusaders scored three of the first five points and sides never went up by more than two until a 20-all deadlock. UD had a service error and then the next four points went to the guests.

The last set saw Whyte get a kill for a UD point that made it 13-10. The Tigers increased the lead to seven for their largest of the set at that juncture. Eventually the lead reached nine and that would remain the final distance.

Dallas tallied 11 kills in that second set alone. Whyte, Faith Daniels (San Antonio, Texas), and Cassie Dyoub (Frisco, Texas) all had five in the game. Abby Medico (Tulsa, Okla.) made her debut and passed 10 assists as the setter. Moriah Delgado (Fort Worth, Texas) had another double-digit digs performance in her first collegiate games.

Dallas hosts Austin College on Saturday, March 3 with a doubleheader set for 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
