IRVING, Texas - The No. 4 seed University of Dallas fell to the No. 1 Seed Colorado College 3-0 in the Semifinals of the SCAC volleyball tournament. The Tigers (30-2) tallied 40 kills in the match to get past Dallas 25-12, 25-16, 25-19. Dallas (20-14) will look forward to playing in the third place match tomorrow.

Colorado College, who is ranked No. 4 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), started set one with a 5-4 lead. Two kills by Haley Harris pushed the Tigers lead to 7-4. CC kept rolling with kills by Margo Spaethling and Harris, but Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) had some key kills, along with an Ellise Anable (Phoenix, Ariz.) ace to keep the Crusaders close (13-8).

A 7-0 CC run killed the UD momentum (20-8). Out of the Dallas timeout, the Crusaders went on a 3-0 run with kills by Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) and Anna Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) along with a Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) ace. Down the final stretch CC took the final five of the last six points to secure the set win.

Set two was tied at eight, when the Tigers opened up a two point spread after a Harris kill and a bad set by UD. A kill by Whyte helped get the Crusaders back within arm's reach. (14-12). A 6-0 Tigers run was thanks to Myca Steffey-Bean and Speathling securing kills each. Garcia added a couple of kills for UD, but it would not be quite enough as CC took a 2-0 set lead.

Dallas opened up set three with a 6-4 lead, but two errors by the Crusaders tied the match. Speathling had a kill for CC to find its first lead of the set. Stevenson hammered a kill to tie the match once again. A 2-0 run put Dallas up 9-7 with a kill by Stevenson and Garcia each. Attack errors by CC pushed the Crusaders lead to 13-9. Out of the Tigers timeout, CC went on a 3-0 run capped off by a Speathling ace. Both team scored points back-and-forth until the set with tied at again at 16. An ace by Steffey-Bean and a Speathling kill grabbed the lead back for CC (18-16). Porras had a big kill (18-17), but a 6-0 run by the Tigers helped them pull away, as three different Tigers had kills on that run. CC took the run and finished off set three will a Harris kill for the match win.

Whyte led the Crusaders offense with eight kills, followed by Garcia and Stevenson who each had seven kills. Pua gathered a team-lead 13 digs, while Anable had 10. Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) dished out 26 assists.

Harris led the Tigers with 10 kills and 12 digs. Anna Gurolnick led CC with 13 digs.

The No. 1 seed Colorado College will play tomorrow at noon in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament championship game against the No. 3 seed Southwestern University.

Following the match, SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry presented the conference awards, that included Whyte receiving her Freshman of the Year Plaque.
