Volleyball starts California Trip with Dominant Win

OAKLAND, Calif. – The University of Dallas volleyball won a straight set sweep for its 10th victory of the season and won back-to-back matches for the second time this year at Mills College. The Crusaders roared in front in the first set and prevailed by their largest margin in a set this campaign with a 20-point win. That included a game-best 12 kills in 25 attempts for a .360 hitting percentage.

After that, the guests secured wins in the next pair of sets 25-15 and 25-14. The Crusaders outdid Mills 33-8 in kills and by 20 (66-46) in digs.

Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) garnered game-highs in kills (12) and digs (16) for her 14th double-double in that fashion this season. The senior now has recorded such double-doubles in four-of-six matches since she started the fall with 10 straight.

Sarah Hughes (Fair Oaks, Calif.) performed well in her home state by contributing nine kills and 14 digs. Four of the past five contests Hughes has dug at least 10 balls and was a kill shy of consecutive double-doubles and her fourth overall.

Hughes also posted a pair of service aces, as the team compiled 13 total for one short of a season-best against Brooklyn College (Sept. 15th). Samantha Garza (Richmond, Texas) led the squad with three for a personal-best. Stephanie Janysek (Sinton, Texas) and Rylee Davis (Lampasas, Texas) both chipped in a pair to form the quartet of UD players with multiple aces.

Mary Goodykoontz (Chandler, Ariz.) posted 18 assists, while Janysek provided half that mark for 27-of-28 by the team.
