FIRST SERVE

The University of Dallas volleyball team concludes the 2017 season with a pair of non-conference matches in California. Friday the Crusaders (9-19) play Mills College at 6 p.m. (PST). The next day, the team travels to University of California-Santa Cruz for a 4 p.m. (PST) start.

Dallas is coming off a thrilling five-set win against Schreiner University that featured several career-best performances and a school record for digs in a match (147). Sarah Hughes (Fair Oaks, Calif.) recorded a double-double with personal-highs in kills (19) and digs (31), while Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) added a double-double of her own with 16 kills and 29 digs. Mary Goodykontz (Chandler, Ariz.) notched a career-best 53 assists, while Samantha Garza (Richmond, Texas) and Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) earned personal-highs with 16 kills and 44 digs, respectively.


UD NOTABLES

- The Crusaders are 7-7 in non-conference games.

- Scholz paces the offense with 254 kills and is averaging 3.17 per set, which ranks fifth in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

- Hassink maintains her strong first season at libero with 529 digs and is averaging 5.40 per set. Her digs average ranks atop the SCAC and total digs are second. The senior is fourth in each statistical column in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

- For Hassink's career, she has rose to third all-time in the program for digs with 1,647. She ranked 11th at the start of the campaign. The only two players with more are UD Hall of Famer Kellie Fuentes (inducted 2015), and two-time NCAA Division III Digs-Per-Set Leader Jessie Koster (Class of '17).

- Garza and Hughes have each contributed triple-digits in kills with 128 and 116, respectively.

- Theresa Schramm (Plymouth, Wis.) holds a team-high 52 blocks with 43 of them solo.

OPPONENT NOTABLES

- The Cyclones are 1-18 on the year and 0-4 at home.

- They recently picked up their first win of the year last Friday in a 3-1 result over West Coast Baptist. This past Monday, UC Santa Cruz defeated Mills 3-0.

- Vivian Kang leads the team in digs (223) and digs-per-set (4.55).

- Offensively the team has totaled 196 kills led by Jamie Ziolkowski and Myeisha Williams with 55 and 46.

- Sydney Huddleston is the primary setter with 99 assists.

- The Banana Slugs hold a 5-21 record. They are 2-2 in the last four matchups, which includes a 3-0 setback to Menlo on Wednesday.

- Claire Okerlund highlights the offense with 163 kills. Kallan Bedard has contributed 151 and Tatum Novitzky has 135 chipped in.

- Krysti Photias (378) and Alana Susbilla (238) share the majority of the team's 831 assists.

- Photias also has a team-best 31 service aces.

- The Banana Slugs have compiled 1,440 digs, which is 23 less than opponents this season. Six players have surpassed at least 100, and Monica Lee leads the sextet with 309.
