COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas volleyball team fell twice on Saturday in 3-0 sets to Centenary College and Austin College. The doubleheader concluded the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Divisional hosted by No. 2 Colorado College, who topped the Crusaders on Friday evening. Dallas fell to 7-15 overall and 1-8 in the conference.

In the morning, Dallas allowed Centenary to claim an early lead with a 25-10 victory. The next pair of sets proved to be tight contests, but the Crusaders fell by two points in each.

Set two started with Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) knocking back-to-back kills and then Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) tallied a service ace to open the first three points of a 5-0 run. The Ladies countered with a big stretch to go up 11-7 that saw Desiree Frey cap it with consecutive kills. Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) snuffed the run with a kill and then went on serve and got an ace. An attack error by Centenary cut the UD deficit to 12-10.

The squads kept exchanging points and Dallas would pull within a point a couple occasions before finally knotting the score at 19 after Sarah Hughes (Fair Oaks, Calif.) notched a kill. The junior had the next kill for her team, but was the lone point compared to Centenary's five after that deadlock. The Crusaders mustered a final comeback bid on set point with two kills from Scholz and Rylee Davis (Lampasas, Texas). Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) served an ace to nip the score 24-23, but Michaela Brantley put the Ladies in front 2-0 with a kill on the final point.

Centenary took the early momentum by scoring the first three times in the last set. Dallas responded with six-of-seven points that included a pair of aces by Davis. After a 7-0 scoring streak response by the Maroon and White, the Crusaders worked to keep things within striking distance. Down by eight (20-12), UD rattled off six straight points that was part of a 9-1 span. Kills by Hughes and Kennedy Bradley (Groesbeck, Texas) started the run, and Scholz notably posted all three of her aces in the match consecutively to cap the initial six unanswered points.

UD's opponent never relinquished the lead and went up 24-21, before a pair of miscues gave the Crusaders life. Unfortunately, the Ladies would hold on and secure the straight set sweep.

Scholz posted a conference-best 13 kills to lead the Crusaders offense. Davis added five kills and Smith and Hughes both etched four. Smith led the team with 21 assists. As a group, Dallas had eight service aces with Smith and Hassink having the other two not mentioned above.

Centenary moved to 11-12 and 3-6 after the triumph. Frey tied a game-high 13 kills and Brantley contributed seven. A trio of players reached double figures in digs, as the team outdid UD 51-39. Brittany Risner and Allison Lazewski respectively posted 17 and 10 assists.

In the second match of the day, Dallas fell 25-12, 25-14, and 25-22 to Austin College. Long runs in the middle of the first two sets helped the 'Roos (19-8, 5-5 SCAC) bolster the advantage.

The Crusaders fought in the last frame with its best frame. They totaled a set-high 10 kills and scored 22 points after combining for 26 in the first pair of sets. Davis got a kill to knot the score 3-all, and then Skyler Doty (Mesquite, Texas) was on serve where the team garnered a two-point lead. The brief lead happened after an AC error and kill by Hassink.

The 'Roos removed a one-point margin (6-5) and scored 10-of-13 to go up 15-9. After a Dallas timeout, it countered with a 6-2 run that narrowed the gap to a pair (17-15). Austin College responded with another decent run that included four points in a row before a service error halted it. Trailing six on match-point, Scholz mashed three successful attacks for kills and the 'Roos attack error made it a two-point game. However, AC's Aelyn Rodriguez wrapped up the victory with a kill.

Scholz again had a team-high in kills with a double figure performance and tied a game-high 11. Davis repeated her first match stat column with the same number of kills. Smith totaled 16 assists.

The 'Roos were led by Brooke Harris with the other 11-kill display. Mayson Kennon and Kristen Massey contributed nine and eight, respectively. Austin College as a whole had 45 kills compared to UD's 26. Katie Ingle had game-high 28 assists.
