FIRST SERVE

The University of Dallas volleyball team begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play this Saturday and Sunday at Austin College. Dallas (5-7) will play a trio of matches against No. 3 Colorado College (10:30 a.m.), Centenary College (3 p.m.), and Austin College (1 p.m.). The matchup versus the host school will wrap up the slate on Sunday. Dallas was selected sixth in the preseason coaches' poll this fall.

The Crusaders have won all four of their matches out of the last seven outings. Their most recent result was a victory on Tuesday at Southwestern Adventist University in a set sweep. UD has earned four wins this fall in 3-0 fashion and two weeks ago split four matches held up at Sherman in non-conference action.


UD NOTABLES

- Mary Scholz leads the SCAC in kills with 144 (3.43 k/s). Her total also ranks third in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Until Tuesday when she only played one set, Scholz had notched double figures in the first 11 matches.

- Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) also leads the SCAC and ranks third in the USCAA with 252 digs. Scholz and Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) also have eclipsed triple digits respectively with 176 and 129.

- Kennedy Bradley (Groesbeck, Texas) has compiled 21 kills over her past three matches, including eight each game in a doubleheader on Saturday at the UD Tournament.

- Stephanie Janysek (Sinton, Texas) continues building on her career-high year in assists with 260.

- The Crusaders dropped a pair of matches to Colorado College and split regular season matchups with Centenary College and Austin College in 2016. The 'Roos did sweep UD in the Quarterfinal after their two regular season meetings went five sets.

- Of the three opponents, Dallas has had the most success historically with Centenary; posting a 12-1 record against the Ladies.


OPPONENT NOTABLES

(Colorado College)

- The Tigers are ranked third in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and just knocked off top ranked Calvin College in three sets to help remain perfect on the campaign (11-0).

- Offensively Colorado College holds a 506-389 advantage in kills to its opponents and average 12.65 a set. Aria Dudley paces CC with 81, while Haley Harris (76) and Glenna Yancey (74) round out the top trio.

- Lizzy Counts has delivered 380 assists and her 9.56 per set lead the conference.

(Centenary College)

- The Ladies are 6-5 overall on the year.

- Desiree Frey leads the offense with 127 kills and is second in digs with 112. Marissa Sandoval is atop in digs with 125.

- Allison Lazewski and Brittaney Risner have shared setter duties with 205 and 140, respectively. Hailey Lawson leads the SCAC in service aces with 30.

(Austin College

- The 'Roos are 10-2 this fall and 9-1 at Hughey Gym.

- Mayson Kennon paces the offense with 94 kills and Kristen Massey follows with 71. Five players for AC have put down at least 60 kills. Dani DeWitt (67), Rebekah Bowden (65), and Brooke Harris (61) complete the quintet.

- Bowden is first in the league in blocks with 50 (1.35) and has made 16 of them solo.

- Katie Ingle holds a team-high 255 assists and is third on the squad in digs with 118. Tatiana Ferrari and Madi McVay are just above Ingle in digs with 135 and 131.


UP NEXT

Dallas remains in conference play with its first cross-divisional over September 30th-October 1st at Texas Lutheran University. Besides the host institution, the Crusaders play Southwestern University, Schreiner University, and Trinity University.
