3 Career Nights not enough for Volleyball in SCAC Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The University of Dallas volleyball team (4-6, 0-1 SCAC)) fell in five sets to Centenary College (2-8, 1-0 SCAC) on Friday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set Scores: L 3-2 | (25-15, 18-25, 19-25, 25-18, 9-15)

The Crusaders jumped out in control the first set, taking the largest difference result of any set in the game. The frame was even through the first 22 points, with UD ahead by no more than three points in that span. However, Dallas rattled a 12-1 run to boost the advantage. Despite the Ladies tacking three straight points to end the run, a kill from Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) gave the Navy and White a 1-0 set edge.

The momentum turned in the second set, as the Maroon and White took off with a 10-2 run that included 9 of the first 10 points. Centenary made the lead balloon to double-digits (15-5) and secured an even score 1-1.

In the third set, Dallas took the first two points and traded points throughout the early going. The Ladies knotted the scoreboard 10-all on a Desiree Frey kill and then took their first lead on the next serve that gave them three straight and four of the last five. Centenary pushed the edge to as many as four (16-12) before the Crusaders countered with an impressive 13-3 surge to close out the frame.

Ahead 2-1, the Crusaders were unable to keep pace in the fourth set and fell in the deciding set for the second straight contest.
