Volleyball Day 1 Fast Recap of Austin College Invitational

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team (3-4) fell in straight sets to University of Texas at Tyler (6-0) and Concordia University (3-3) on Friday at the Austin College Invitational. 

UT-TYLER MATCH

Set Scores: UTT Wins|25-15, 25-21, 25-22

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Dallas logged a set-high 14 kills in the final one. 

- Mairin Guilfoyle (Roanoke, Va.) led the team with seven kills. Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) followed with six and Diana Hassink added five.

- Scholz served four of the Crusaders' five aces in the game. The sophomore tied a personal best of 16 on the season. 

- Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) made 15 digs and Hassink was right after with 14. 

- Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) made 22 assist. 

- UT-Tyler notched a kill percentage of .371 (17-35) in the first set. 

- Brieanne Brown and Allyson Dernehel both cracked double-digits with 10 kills. 

- Reighanna Guzman and Rebecca Floyd displayed 18 and 16 assists, respectively.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Hassink cracked double figures in kills for the third time in her career and totaled her third highest output with a team-high 11. She hit a .259 (11-27) kill percentage. Guilfoyle and Scholz repeated their kill marks of the earlier match with seven and six.

- Koster led the defense with 18 digs and Hassink earned a double-double with 11 kills and digs. 

- Smith was credited with 16 assists. 

- The Tornadoes hit a .344 (15-32) kill percentage in the second set. The team totaled 44 overall in the match. 

- Carly Custer boasted a game-high of 12 and had one error in 24 overall attempts for a .458 kill percentage. Kelly Farina completed the double-digit players with 10. Courtney Gopinath and Marissa Stinson each added eight. 

- Lexi Perez led the team with 18 digs. Farina (12) and Lianne VanDyke (11) finished the trio of double-digit performances on the defensive side of the Patriots' ball. VanDyke additionally amassed 35 assists. 

UP NEXT

Dallas takes on Sul Ross State University at 11 a.m. and McMurry University at 5 p.m. on Saturday to conclude the invitational.
