Volleyball holds off Arlington Baptist in Season-Opening Win

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team (1-0) earned a 3-2 (25-19, 25-14, 19-25, 17-25, 16-14) victory at Arlington Baptist College on Thursday. It is the first win for the Crusaders new head coach, Prentice Lewis. After the team jumped in front with a 2-0 advantage in the sets, the Patriots rallied back to force a final set. It was a nailbiter, as the final score came down to going beyond the 15-point tally due to having to win by at least two when both teams have at least 14 points. The Crusaders were on the right side and improve to 13-0 against Arlington Baptist in the all-time series.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Sophomore Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) recorded a double-double with 13 kills (tied second highest career match total) and career-high 20 digs. Senior Mairin Guilfoyle (Roanoke, Va.) also eclipsed double figures in kills with 10.

- Scholz also led the team with four service aces.

- Senior Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) was two digs shy from a career best of 43 (Notched Sept. 27 vs. Southwestern University) to pace the squad.

- Sophomore Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) notched 38 assists and chipped in seven kills for third most on the evening. Freshman Kennedy Bradley (Groesbeck, Texas) had six kills in her collegiate debut.
