Volleyball wraps up Season Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team (11-23) concluded the 2015 season in a 3-0 setback versus Austin College (26-16) on Saturday. The tilt was day two of the SCAC Tournament, as both squads dropped their matches the previous day.

The Lady Crusaders were defeated in sets by a tally of: 17-25, 16-25, 18-25. In the second set, UD would make a run to narrow the gap to one point, 12-11 and 13-12, on two occasions before the 'Roos pushed the lead back to three. Austin College would secure a 2-0 advantage in the sets by closing the frame on a 12-4 run. The Maroon and Gold would keep control the rest of the way, ending the year with a fifth place finish in the league.

Junior Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) led the defense with 25 digs to boast her single season record to 790. The libero would finish second in the conference with that mark, but did lead in digs per set with a 6.69-clip. That mark would also help Koster break into the record books twice for single-season and career average. The latter category was held from last season by the Sherwood, Oregon, native.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Senior Cat Dowgwillo (St. Louis, Mo.) led Dallas offensively with eight kills. Sophomore Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) followed with seven and junior Lexi Noriega (Salinas, Calif.) added six.
  • Koster and Hassink reached double-digits in digs with 25 and 16, respectively. The Navy and White outdid AC in digs 70-68.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Smith posted 23 assists.
  • Rebekah Bowden made nine kills and Presleigh Watson added seven to head the offense. Rachel Fusselman completed 26 digs and Lauren Wulz hit a double-double with 13 assists and 12 digs.
  • As a team, the 'Roos converted 16 blocks, with 14 as block assists.
