THE LEAD

The University of Dallas volleyball team begins the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament on November 6-7, hosted by Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Dallas earned the No. 6 Seed by going 11-21 overall and 4-10 in the SCAC.

The Lady Crusaders will play the No. 3 Seed Texas Lutheran University at 1 p.m. on Friday. The winner advances to take on No. 2 Southwestern University at 6 p.m. The other team will play a consolidation match at on Saturday at 11 a.m.


PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR UD

Junior Mairin Guilfoyle (Roanoke, Va.) leads the offense with 314 kills and is averaging 2.80 per set. She is well over a career-high in that category and most recently set a personal and team-best this season with 16 last time out at University of Texas at Tyler.

Fellow teammate Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) ranks second in the NCAA Division III, SCAC, and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) in digs with 742. That mark set a single season record for the program, which she broke by six in the latest outing. Koster also is top five in the nation with digs per set at a 6.63-clip, and leads the SCAC in that category.

Freshman Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) paces the squad with 649 assists, and senior Cat Dowgwillo (St. Louis, Mo.) is the team-leader in blocks with 57.

A LOOK AT THE FIELD

No. 1 Seed Colorado College earned the SCAC Regular Season Championship after going 33-2 and undefeated, 14-0, within the conference. The Tigers have won nine in a row and are ranked No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Colorado College plays at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against the winner of Austin College and Trinity University.

No. 2 Seed is Southwestern University, the host school for the SCAC Volleyball Tournament. The Pirates posted a 29-4 record and 12-2 mark in the SCAC to earn the other tournament first round bye. Southwestern is ranked No.12 in the AVCA poll as well, and undefeated at home this year with a 6-0 display.

No. 3 Seed Texas Lutheran University enters the tournament with a 17-7 overall result and 8-6 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs took both head-to-head contests against Dallas this season, by winning the first meeting 3-2 in San Antonio, Texas, and then sweeping three sets at Colorado College in the most recent contest on October 24.

No. 4 Seed Trinity University went 22-12 and 7-7 in the SCAC this season. The Tigers are 9-9 in matches away from the home confines this fall. Trinity will take on Austin College at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, where they prevailed twice in both regular season matches this season.

No. 5 Seed Austin College is 25-15 and holds an identical record to Trinity with a 7-7 reflection against league opponents. Trinity won the tiebreaker due to the season series result. However, both programs hit the court on Friday to begin the two-day tournament. The 'Roos closed the season with three-straight victories in non-conference action.
