Senior Night a Success as Volleyball sweeps Jarvis Christian College

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team (11-19) celebrated "Senior Night" in enjoyable fashion, taking a three-set sweep (25-17, 25-13, 25-14) from Jarvis Christian College on Wednesday. Dallas wraps up its final match in the Maher Center this fall, going 4-5 at the home confines. The victory also snapped an eight-game slide for the Lady Crusaders.

Both teams came out in the first set, and traded points throughout the opening exchanges. Jarvis Christian contained an early advantage until the Lady Crusaders utilized a 4-0 run to erase a 12-9 deficit. During that streak, Senior Cat Dowgwillo (St. Louis, Mo.) had two of her game-high 12 kills.

After the Bulldogs reclaimed a 14-13 lead, it was the home squad that would grab the advantage the remainder of the frame with another stretch of four-straight points. The Lady Crusaders pushed the margin to as many as eight – on the final tally of the set. Dallas closed the opening set on a 12-3 run.

In the middle set, Dallas rattled off several big rallies to jump ahead to a 16-7 lead. This included a string of six unanswered points to propel the Lady Crusaders up 10-4. Sophomore Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) would serve during six of those plays, resulting in five points for the home squad.

The greatest lead for the Navy and White in that frame was 12, again on the final score of the set. Dallas would notch double-digit margins on four occasions, with the first being 20-10. Two points in a row after a 23-13 scoreboard display closed out the home team's largest set win of the night.

Dallas never would trail in the final set, and would be able to complete its ninth sweep of the campaign. Prior to the tilt, two seniors: Jaime Birzer (Ottawa, Kan.) and Dowgwillo, would be honored for their four years in Navy and White.

Birzer would toss up the first serve of the contest.
