Volleyball falls in Two Games on Thursday Night

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas (9-11) fell in two matches on Thursday night at the Maher Center. Dallas battled University of Texas at Tyler to a 3-1 setback, before being blanked 3-0 by No. 22 University of Texas at Dallas.

The Lady Crusaders played Texas-Tyler to four sets: (25-18, 18-25, 25-16, 25-21) in the first match of the dual tilt. The first two sets saw the same score reflected, as UD countered in the second set to even things 1-all.

In the third set, a 3-0 run by the Navy and White lifted them to an early 7-4 advantage, but the Patriots would rattle off four points in a row on two occasions - part of an 8-1 span that forced a home timeout.

Dallas would score out of the break and clawed back to a 14-13 deficit, before UTT swung the momentum for good in a 9-3 scoring stretch to take the set edge by one.

The Patriots opened on a 6-1 run in the fourth frame, and would maintain control throughout the decisive set. UD would come within a two-point deficit on two occasions, but eight of the final 10 points went towards the guests.

In the nightcap, Dallas kept up with the top 25 nationally ranked foe, Texas-Dallas, but would not be able to overcome the early hole in a straight-set sweep (25-19, 25-15, 25-8).

After falling behind 10-2, the Lady Crusaders found the scoring column four-straight possessions on kills – two off the hands of junior Lexi Noriega (Salinas, Calif.). UTD was able to answer with a formidable attack, and extended its edge to as many as 11, before the home squad closed the gap with a 6-2 run to end the opening set.

The following two sets proved to be too much for Dallas, who moved to 1-2 on its six-game home stand. The Comets have won 10-straight games.
