@UDallasVball ready to begin SCAC Tournament this weekend

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team (22-11, 8-6 SCAC) begins the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Nov. 7-9 hosted at Austin College University. The Lady Crusaders notched the fourth seed and will be up against fifth-seeded Texas Lutheran University (19-12, 6-8 SCAC) on Friday, Nov. 7 for a 10:30 a.m. tipoff.

Dallas has won its past three matches, including consecutive conference victories on day two of the SCAC Cross Divisional No. 4 at Seguin, Texas versus Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran.

In two contests versus the Bulldogs, the navy and white have prevailed 3-1 and 3-2. Each squad exchanged wins the first four sets, and Dallas secured the crucial win by triumphing in the final set, 15-11.

On the campaign, UD has gone 9-8 at neutral site venues.

Offensively junior middle blocker Jaime Birzer (Ottawa, Kan.) is leading the attacks with 307 kills. Behind her are senior middle blocker Emily Caples (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and sophomore outside hitter Mairin Guilfoyle (Roanoke, Va.) contributing 285 and 259, respectively.

Leading the team in assists and the SCAC is senior setter C.J. Broadbent (Goodyear, Ariz.) with 1100. Guilfoyle ranks tied for second in the league mustering 0.46 service aces for 97 total, which is a team-best.

Sophomore libero Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) is guiding the defensive side of the ball for Dallas, tallying 540 of the squad's 2,204 digs. Broadbent has added 303 and a trio of players have topped at least 200. The unit includes: Guilfoyle at 250, sophomore defensive specialist Allison Seager (Dallas, Texas) with 247, and freshman defensive specialist Diana Hassink with 236 (Tulsa, OK).

Within the SCAC, Dallas is second with 1.90 service aces per set.

The winner of Friday's set advances to take on top-seeded No.21 Trinity University at 3:30 p.m. that same day. A setback would leave that team battling the loser of Austin College and Colorado College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
