Match 1: Hardin-Simmons defeats Dallas, 3-1:

The initial set with HSU (1-0) was a back-and-forth affair. Dallas rattled-off a 7-1 run to lead 11-6. The Cowgirls knotted the score at 12, but first-year head coach Emily Holombek's squad finished strongly to take the set.

In sets two and three, fortune favored HSU as they countered the Lady Crusaders with 25-21 scores to go up 2-1 in the match.

The fourth set also went to the Cowgirls, despite a push from the navy and white. Trailing 18-15, Dallas rallied to knot the set at 26 all. HSU responded with consecutive kills to end the contest.

Freshman outside-hitter/defenisve-specialist Mary Scholz (Fallon, Nev.) and junior middle-blocker Jaime Birzer (Ottawa, Kan.) combined for 31 kills to lead the Dallas attack.

Senior setter/defensive-specialist C.J. Broadbent (Goodyear, Ariz.) recorded a match-high 43 assists.
