Volleyball Sweeps Hendrix Fall Classic

The UDallas volleyball swept the Hendrix Fall Classic winning all four of its contests against Huntingdon College, Howard Payne University, Hendrix College, and Williams Baptist College.  In the tournament that took place in Conway, AR, Dallas won 12 of its 17 games including a 3-0 sweep of Huntingdon: 25-22, 25-16, 26-24. The Crusaders also defeated Howard Payne in five games: 16-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-11, tournament host Hendrix College in four by the count of 25-11, 28-30, 25-14, 25-17, and Williams Baptist College in comeback fashion, 18-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-9.  The wins also granted Dallas a perfect 9-0 start and a place in record books as the best start for a volleyball team in school history. The previous record of six match wins to open a season was established when the 1998 and 2003 teams reached the mark.

Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann (Florissant, MO/Nerinx Hall H.S.) led the attack offensively tallying a team high 63 kills, and was second on the team in aces with 9, and assists with 5.  Sophomore setter Amanda Kitten (Slaton, TX/Lubbock-Cooper) led the team in assists with 189.  Junior middle blocker Liz Baska (Tonganoxie, KS/Tonganoxie H.S.) dished out a team high 10 aces.  Junior right side hitter Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) provided 61 kills in addition to a team high 3 solo blocks, and 10 block assists.  Sharing the team lead in block assists was freshman middle blocker Laura Yokell (Fort Worth, TX/Home School) who also had 10.  Senior libero Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, TX/Rowlett H.S.) pitched in a team leading 82 digs.  Wohldmann and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Glick (Dallas, TX/North Hills Prep) combined to contribute 105 more digs.

The volleyball squad will remain on the road in pursuit of perfection and the school consecutive wins record of 11 when they travel to Tyler, TX on Friday, September 17.  UD will first play Mississippi College at 5:30pm, followed by a match up against UT-Tyler at 7:00pm.
