UD Volleyball Sweeps Two Day Home Tournament

The University of Dallas Crusaders completed this weekend's tournament undefeated, starting the season off with a 5-0 record. On Saturday they faced the Hendrix College Warriors and the East Texas Baptist University Tigers finishing the tournament with a challenging win. Against Hendrix College, the Crusaders were able to defeat the Warriors after just three games, winning 29-27, 25-21, and 27-25. Leading the attack was junior rightside Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) who had 15 of Dallas' 51 kills, junior middle blocker Liz Baska (Tonganoxie, KS/Tonganoxie H.S.) and sophomore outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann (Florissant, MO/Nerinx Hall H.S.) contributed 13 and 12 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Amanda Kitten had a whopping 45 assists throughout the match as well as 9 digs. Fuchs added 3 assists and 2 aces while Baska had 1 ace and 3 digs. On the defensive side, senior libero Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, TX/Rowlett H.S) led the team with 22 digs followed by Fuchs with 18, while Wohldmann and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Glick (Dallas, TX/Nerinx Hall H.S.) both added 12.

Dallas finished the tournament with the toughest match of the weekend, playing 5 games against ETBU before claiming the victory. The Crusaders won the first two games 25-16 and 25-20 and fought to win the third but lost 30-28. The Tigers won the next game 25-23 putting them into overtime which ended in a 10-5 win for Dallas. The Crusaders had 66 kills: 24 from Wohldmann, 15 from Fuchs, 12 from sophomore outside hitter Emily Myers (San Juan Capistrano, CA/JSerra H.S.), 10 from Baska, 3 from Kitten, and 1 from Glick and freshman middle blocker Laura Yokell (Ft. Worth, TX/Home School). Wohldmann also led the team with 21 digs, followed by Fuentes and Fuchs who tied for 18, Kitten contributing 15, and 13 added by Glick. Kitten had 49 assists, Fuchs had 5, and Glick had 1; Kitten, Fuchs, and Wohldmann each had 1 ace as well. A big congratulation to these 8 amazing Crusaders who represented University of Dallas athletics with pride!

The Crusaders will be travelling this weekend for the Hendrix Tournament where they will first play Huntington College at 3pm on Friday, September 10.
