UD Volleyball Takes Two Matches in University of Dallas Invitational

The Dallas volleyball team won the first two matches of their home opening tournament against Sul Ross State University Friday night, and prevailed in the nightcap over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for the sweep.

Their opening match against the Lobos of Sul Ross State University lasted four games, with UD winning the first two 25-12 and 25-11, respectively. In the third game, Sul Ross pulled off a close victory with a 26-24 win. In the fourth game, UD bounced back to take home the match with a 25-13 victory. UD finished the match with 42 kills; 12 coming from junior middle blocker Liz Baska (Tonganoxie, KS/Tonganoxie H.S.) and 11 from junior rightside Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.). Baska also led the team with 6 aces and shared the team lead of 2 block assists with Fuchs and freshman middle blocker Laura Yokell (Fort Worth, TX/Home School). Sophomore setter Amanda Kitten (Slaton, TX/Lubbock-Cooper) accounted for 26 assists and 3 service aces, both team highs. Defensively, UD totaled 73 digs, with libero Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, TX/Rowlett H.S.) leading the team with 17. Fuchs and sophomore outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann were right behind her in adding 14 apiece.

In the first day finale of the University of Dallas tournament, UD defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor in 3 just games, winning 25-12, 25-18, and 25-22. Junior rightside Danielle Fuchs led the team with 12 kills in 29 total attacks with no errors, and added 12 digs as well. Sophomore setter Amanda Kitten contributed 36 assists, 2 aces, and 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann chipped in 10 kills and 2 aces while senior libero Kelli Fuentes led the team with 13 digs.

Next up for the volleyball team is 2 more matches in the final day of the University of Dallas Invitational. The 3-0 Crusaders take on Hendrix College at 11:00am and East Texas Baptist University at 6:00pm.
