Dallas Volleyball Off to Hot Start at NEAC Tournament

The UD volleyball team is spending its weekend at the Northeastern Athletic Conference Tournament in Reading, PA, and has started the tournament with three quick wins. In their first match of the tournament they were put up against Penn State Berks and after dropping a tightly contested first game 24-26, they stormed back rattling off three straight games 25-21, 25-18, 25-12 to get the win. The Lady Crusaders were led by the efforts of freshman outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann (Florissant, MO/Nerinx Hall H.S.) who had a team high 14 kills while also tallying 9 digs and 4 block assists. Also posting big games for the Crusaders were sophomore rightside Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) with 11 kills, a service ace, 14 digs, and 4 block assists; sophomore libero Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, TX/Rowlett H.S.) who recorded a team leading 3 service aces; and freshman setter Amanda Kitten (Slaton, TX/Lubbock-Cooper) who had 47 assists to go along with 11 digs and 2 block assists.

Earlier this afternoon, the Lady Crusaders were faced with their second test of the NEAC tournament with a match against Keuka College and once again they came through with another impressive win; 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14. Danielle Fuchs had a big game leading UD to the victory posting a line of 12 kills, 2 assists, 3 service aces, 12 digs and 2 block assists. The Lady Crusaders served the ball incredibly well in the match, with a team total of 16 service aces. Other big contributors for UD were, junior middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) with 8 kills, a team high 5 service aces, 5 digs, and 2 block assists.

In their third match of the tournament UD controlled the top seeded Morrisville State University Mustang in three sets; 25-18, 25-13, 25-16.

Today's victories pushed UD to 3-0 and in great shape in the NEAC Conference Tournament. They will continue their quest for a conference title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament tomorrow morning as they travel to Middletown, PA for the NEAC Championships. Their first match is against the second best team from the Penn State Harrisburg sight, and starts at 10:00am.
