Farrell Breaks Own Record
In a season of records being broken, Celina Farrell (Corinth,
TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) trumped that by breaking her own mark that was
established earlier this season. The 5’11” middle
blocker recorded a UD record 11 block assists in Saturday’s
last game of the Austin College Classic in Sherman, TX against the
Tornados of Concordia University (TX). In four tournament matches
(14 games) she recorded 20 block assists and one solo block to go
along with 13 kills and four service aces.
For the season, Farrell has recorded 89 block assists and nine solo
blocks, and is currently the UD record holder in career block
assists with 236. Fellow junior Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, TX/Rowlett
H.S.) also joins Farrell as an individual record breaker. The
libero has 1,790 digs so far in her three year career at UD.
UD has four regular season matches remaining in the 2009 season
before travelling northeast for the NEAC Championships on November
6 and 7. The four regular season games include Wednesday’s
away match against Wiley College, and three home matches at this
weekends’ University of Dallas Invitational on Friday,
October 30th and Saturday, October 31st. Friday’s one match
against Rust College begins at 7:00pm, and Saturday’s two
matches against Howard Payne University and Arlington Baptist
College begin at 1:30pm and 3:30pm, respectively.
