UD Volleyball Splits Opening Day of Worthington Classic

The UD Volleyball team traveled to Washington D.C. this weekend to take part in the Worthington Classic. In their opening match against tournament host Gallaudet University, UD volleyball fell in four games; 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25. The Lady Crusaders had better luck in their second match of the day against Farleigh Dickinson, where they won in four games; 25-20, 27-25, 13-25, 25-17.

In the first match against Gallaudet, the Lady Crusaders were led by freshman setter Amanda Kitten (Slaton, TX/Lubbock-Cooper) who recorded a team high 38 assists, with the majority of those assists going to sophomore outside hitter Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) who led the team with 16 kills while chipping in 3 block assists. Freshman outside-hitter Theresa Wohldmann (Florissant, MO/Nerinx Hall H.S.) also had a good game recording 12 kills and 14 digs. Unfortunately these stats were not enough to get the win.

However, in the second match of the day UD was able to break through and get the win. Key contributors in this match were again Amanda Kitten with 49 assists, 9 digs and 3 kills; Danielle Fuchs with a team high 16 kills, 10 digs, and 3 service aces, a block assist; and Theresa Wohldmann with 15 kills, 12 digs, and 3 block assists. Fuchs and Wohldmann had attack percentages of 4.00 and 3.75 respectively. Junior libero Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) also had a solid game contributing a team high 26 digs and adding an assist.
