Crusaders Improve In Centex Meet

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Crusaders came battle ready to the campus of Southwestern University and came back with well improved times and performances.

Freshman Allison Leonesio had a standout performance, achieving a lifetime personal best in the 5,000 meters with a time of 21:58.23, securing 30th place. She also made history in the pole vault, becoming the first athlete from the program to compete in the event since 2019, clearing an impressive height of 2.65 meters.

In the 1,500 meters, Abigail Piotrowski put together a strong race, finishing with a time of 5:48.29, while her teammate Therese Portilla followed with a time of 6:16.58.

Maya Prochnow showcased her versatility by competing in both the long jump and triple jump for the first time in her career. She posted a mark of 3.93 meters in the long jump, while UD women's volleyball player Grace Achilles, also making her debut in the event, recorded a mark of 3.52 meters. Prochnow continued her solid outing in the triple jump, achieving a respectable mark of 9.15 meters.

Coach Nick had this to say about the teams performance, "Both Piotrowski and Portilla also did the 1500 just to get their feet wet before we put them into the 5k. Leonesio ran a beautiful and well executed 5,000 meter race and ran a lifetime best. She stuck with the plan and we guided her split by split. What makes her race impressive is that she just finished doing the pole vault earlier in the day so her legs were a bit tired. I am super proud of them all."
