Crusaders Begin Season at HSU Early Season Invite on Saturday

The University of Dallas women's track and field team will open up the 2019 season at the HSU Early Season Invite in Abilene, Texas on Saturday (Feb. 23). Head Coach Matt Barber enters his fifth season as head coach for the Crusaders. The roster consists of 12 athletes including six new freshman this spring.

The Crusaders will return Anna Brunk (Lemont, Ill.) and Hannah Green (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who will both compete in pole vault this year.

Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) and Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) will return to the track to compete in distance running events. Newcomers Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.), Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.), Brenda Mendoza (Dumas, Texas), and Katie Dieteman (Erie, Pa.) will all help Dallas in long-distance running.

Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas) and Nicole Zurita (Wichita, Kansas) add speed to the team as they will compete in sprints.

Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) brings back experience on field events as she will compete in throws once again. Freshman Athena Garnica (Phoenix, Ariz.) will join Oliveti in that category.

The team will have five dual sport athletes on this year's roster.

Dallas will compete in six events this spring, finishing with the SCAC Championships hosted by Trinity University April 26-27.

The women's team is coming off a fifth-place finish in last year's SCAC Championships.
