Hassink will Compete at 2nd Annual Spire Twilight in Last Chance Meet on May 11
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.), a senior from the University of Dallas women's track and field team, will compete at least one final time in her career this spring. Hassink will travel to the 2nd Annual Spire Twilight hosted by the University of Saint Mary (KS) on Friday, May 11th.
Hassink is registered to compete in the Shot Put and Javelin Throw. She has broken the school record in the Shot Put three times in her career. The most recent feat marked at 12.26 Meters (40'2.75") to win a gold medal at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship. It is the best throw by any SCAC competitor this season, and ranks her 75th in NCAA Division III.
Having joined the team just two seasons ago, the dual-sport athlete with volleyball has produced some of the top marks all-time in the program. This includes breaking her own record earlier this season at the Marc Randle Classic on March 2nd with an 11.98m (39'3.75") result. Later in the campaign, she won first at the 2nd Annual Dan Veach Invitational.
Hassink has been named SCAC Field Athlete of the Week twice.
Hassink made her collegiate debut in javelin at the conference championship this past weekend. Despite not connecting on a mark due to just beginning with recent practice, the senior could eye breaking the school record based on how far her throws were reaching.
Hassink did participate in a last chance meet in 2017 at Colorado School of Mines. Hassink threw Shot and Hammer Throw, and would break the Shot record for the first time in her career with a 11.80m (38'8.75") mark.
