Hassink Wins Shot Put with Record Breaker; Women's Track & Field Currently 3rd
SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's track and field team competed in the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship on Friday. The Crusaders are currently in third place with 23 points.
Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) scored 10 points with a first place finish in the Shot Put. The senior broke her own school record a third time in her career with a 12.26 Meters (40' 2.75") throw. Hassink set the record in the event earlier this spring with a 39'3.75" result at the Marc Randle Classic (March 2nd). It was the second time this spring the senior won the event, and is the program's first ever gold medal at the SCAC Championship.
Another field athlete breaking a record for Dallas was Hannah Green (Mission Viejo, Calif.) on the Pole Vault. Her mark was 3.03 Meters (9'11.25"), and tied second highest. She would garner seven points with Trinity University's Emma Pool.
Anna Brunk (Lemont, Ill.) added another point in the pole vault with a 2.88m.
Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) etched a pair of points in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase (12:56.22). It was just her second time racing the event this spring and occurred in consecutive meets.
Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.) ran a 43:21.71 in her 10,000 Meters collegiate debut.
In last year's conference championship, Hassink claimed second in the Shot. She also put her name in the program records with the Hammer Throw.
At the end of the day, Trinity leads overall with 85 points. Texas Lutheran follows with 50. Behind Dallas is Colorado College (16), Southwestern (14), and Austin College (1).
