Callahan Wins 1500m; Green tied Pole Vault Record

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Dallas women's track and field team spent Friday (Throwers only) and Saturday at the 2nd Annual Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University.
The Crusaders started the two-day trip out strong in the field events. They were led by Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.), who grabbed second place in the Shot Put and produced her best marks this spring in the Discus Throw and Hammer Throw.
Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.) won the 1500 Meters event with a 5:12.51 result. Her time beat the next closest by UT-Tyler's Paulina Rodriguez (5:13.61). It was the first individual win on an event since four different events were claimed at the 2016 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship.
NOTABLE RESULTS
- Callahan captured a personal record (PR) by 17 seconds in her first place finish. She added a 2:37.11 time for sixth in the 800 Meters.
- Hassink was the other Crusader with a near top finish in the Shot Put with an 11.67 Meters throw. Hassink earned a PR in the Discus 27.30m and season-best 35.01m in the Hammer.
- Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) scored the farthest distance on the team in Discus with a 30.39m. She made her debut in the Hammer Throw.
- Hannah Green (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned third place with a PR in the Pole Vault with a 2.90m. Her mark is the third time the Crusaders have hit that top time in the event for the record. Anna Brunk (Lemont, Ill.) holds the other two results from this spring.
- Brunk made her debut in the Javelin Throw.
- Other season debuts for UD were Panda Green (Farmersville, Texas) and Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) in the 200 Meters.
- Onyenso posted a PR in the Long Jump (4.52m).
- Nicole Zurita (Wichita, Kan.) hit a PR in the 200m with a 35.42-clip.
- Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) and Alondra Hurtado (Wichita Falls, Texas) each boasted a PR in the 1500 Meters with a 5:37.58 and 6:05.65, respectively. Hernandez claimed seventh.
- Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) added a season-best 6:05.35 in the 1500m.

Dallas continues its season next weekend on April 7th at the Smith College Invitational. This will be the home senior meet for Grace Conti (Boxford, Mass.), who is a three-year letterwinner that is a thrower for the Crusaders
