IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won their conference match against Centenary College 2-0 on Friday, improving to 4-7-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.
The Crusaders dominated the match from start to finish. Brutally hamstrung by a slew of injuries, Centenary understandly employed a highly defensive, conservative approach to the match and it nearly paid off. Though Dallas was far and away the dominant side in possession, their efforts were fruitless for much of the game thanks to some stalwart defending by the Ladies.
Centenary's back line bent time and time again with the relentless attack by Dallas, and it was only a matter of time before it finally broke. Kaitlyn Cline broke the deadlock with her second goal of the season, heading a home a deflected cross by Kim Esparza from a corner kick to put Dallas up 1-0 in the 81st minute.
Despite having no substitutes, the Ladies still had some fuel in the tank late in the game and a goal was not completely out of the question as they did have some speed on the counterattack. Claire Reed made sure the result was no longer in question, putting the nail in the coffin in the 89th minute with her first goal of the season after linking up with Britney Zapata.
The Crusaders out shot Centenary 21-1, as Ella Charles didn't have to deal with a single shot on goal between the sticks for UD.
