Women's Soccer Roll Past Schreiner with Big Second Half

October 8, 2023

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won their conference match against Schreiner University 5-0 on Saturday, notching their first conference win of the season.  They improve to 3-7-1 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

The first half was fought to a stalemate with both teams more or less sharing an equal number of opportunities to score.  The Mountaineers were most threatening in the early minutes of the game, with Ella Charles called into action for UD in the 11th minute to keep the game scoreless.

Dallas picked up steam as the half wore on and had a handful of chances to score.  Miriam Skinner tested the keeper once and just missed the upper right corner with another shot as the first half ended scoreless.

It didn't take long for Dallas to get on the board in the second half.  Claire Reed sent the ball long from deep in her own half for Skinner to chase one-on-one with a defender.  Skinner took advantage of a weak back pass and a poor touch by Schreiner's keeper, winning the ball from the keeper in passing the ball into an open net to score the first goal of the game.

From there, the flood gates opened.  Britney Zapata made it 2-0 tapping it in to an open net after Haley Cline found her with a low cross on the back post, and barely two minutes later an own goal by the Mountaineers made it 3-0 for UD.  Skinner and Zapata were involved yet again for the Crusaders fourth goal, as Skinner found Zapata wide open in the box for an easy finish, making it 4-0 Dallas after scoring three goals in three minutes.

Nevaeh Coronado made it 5-0 in the 78th minute after linking up on a through ball by Avery Seaman, cooly finishing into ther bottom right corner.  The 5-0 final score is the biggest win for UD since defeating MUW 9-0 in October of 2021.
