Women's Soccer Drop Tight Match with ETBU

September 13, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The Unviersity of Dallas women's soccer team lost their non-conference match against East Texas Baptist University 2-0 on Tuesday, falling to 1-3 on the year.

It was a tightly fought game, particularly in the first 30 minutes.  Dallas started brightly and looked threatening on the attack a number of times.  They had what was arguably the best chance of the game 10 minutes in when Clare Reed found herself through on goal facing down the keeper in the box.  Though she was being poked and prodded by the trailing defender on her shoulder, Reed managed to fire off a shot inside of 12 yards, but couldn't find either corner as her shot nestled safely in the keeper's arms.

The Crusaders were still on the front foot after the missed opportunity and carved out a handful more over a five minute stretch, but couldn't test the keeper on any of them.  Instead, it was the Tigers who were rewarded for their efforts first, taking advantage of the Crusaders inability to clear the ball from a corner kick, and a little bit of luck on a scuffed, floating shot, to dip the ball under the crossbar and into the net to take a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

The second half got off to a disastrous start for Dallas.  In the first two minutes, they lost possession in their own half and with two passes the Tigers cut right through the line and scored to go up 2-0.  The Crusaders responded well and nearly netter their first goal just a few minutes later, but a pair of shots by Britney Zapata sailed wide of the net.

Those two shots would be the final attempts at goal for the Crusaders.  For much of the match they were getting into dangerous areas, but were missing the final ball to carve out the goal scoring opportunity they needed.
