Bello's Late Goal Defeats LeTourneau

September 4, 2023

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a hard fought contest with LeTourneau University, defeating the Yellowjackets 1-0 on the road.

The first half started with a flurry of action as both teams sought to establish dominance. Avery Seaman nearly put the Crusaders up 1-0 in the first five minutes, but her effort sailed just wide of the top right corner.  Dallas had the lion's share of time in the attacking third in the first half, putting LeTourneau's defenders under pressure with seven corners in the first 45 minutes.

While neither side struggled to fire off shots, shots on goal were at a premium with the trio of keepers who played in the match combining for just six saves on a combined 24 shots for both teams.

Sarata Bello made her one scoring opportunity in the game count, finding the back of the net in the 76th minute via Claire Reed and Seaman to score what would ultimately be the decisive goal.

The Crusaders' defense was stifling in the closing minutes, limiting the Yellowjackets to just two shots in the final 14 minutes.  LeTourneau nearly equalized in the 81st minute, by Natalie Alvarado's shot slammed off the right post and out to preserve the lead for UD.  That would be the last quality opportunity for the Yellowjackets as Dallas held on for the win.  Alison Zilafro and Ella Charles split halves between the sticks and combined for the first clean sheet of their collegiate careers.
