Crusaders Fight Centenary to a Draw to End Season

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team playe d Centenary College in their final match of the 2022 season on Sunday.  They tied the Ladies 1-1 to finish the year 5-10-3 and 4-7-3 in conference play.

The Ladies took a 1-0 lead thanks to an earlygoal by Sydney Bascomb, whose speed caused problems all day for the Crusaders.  Dallas responded well and held firm defensively, but struggled to make anything happen on offense, going into halftime trailing by a goal.

Play was still relatively even in the early goings of the second half, but the Crusaders found a new gear with 20 minutes left and had Centenary pinned in their own half for nearly the remainder of the game.  Claire Reed leveled the game with her fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute, but the Crusaders were far from satisfied.

Dallas was simply ruthless in the final 10 minutes, with Centenary now defending for their lives and praying for the draw.  It could only have been an act of the divine that kept the Crusaders from scoring, but the game would end 1-1 despite the mighty show of offense in the second half.

After the match, the Crusaders honored four seniors, who have now played their final match for UD: Izzy Barajas, Alyssa Mencacci, Michelle Narvaez, and Bridgette Alpar.

From everyone at UD Athletics, thank you for all you have done!  We look forward to seeing what your futures have in store.
