Crusaders Complete Season Sweep of Austin

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won their conference matchup with Austin College 2-0 on Sunday.  They complete the season sweep of the 'Roos, and improve to 3-3 on the year.

The 'Roos will feel hard done to have not come away with at least a draw out of this match.  They enjoyed plenty of possession of the ball and carreid the ball well up and down the pitch.  But the Crusaders put on a masterclass of defending in the final third, rendering nearly all of Austin's possession for naught.  The 'Roos had difficulty creating any meaningful chances, and when they were able to carve out a shot they were unable to test the keeper.  They were unable to register a shot on target in the first half, as the UD back line simply smothered any and all attacks.

Anytime Dallas were on the ball, the threat of a goalscoring chance was looming, as they constantly looked for the incisive pass forward.  Neveah Coronado has now tossed her hat into the ring for potential goal of the season with her long, curling effort in the first half.  She put the Crusaders up 1-0 with a brilliant shot from 27 yards out that dipped under the cross bar and sailed into the top left corner of the net.

Britney Zapata made it 2-0 in the 69th minute off a set piece routine.  A brilliant ball into the box by Claire Reed found Avery Seaman on the back post.  Her initial effort was saved by the keeper from barely 6 yards out, with Zapata able to swoop in and find the back of the net.

Up Next.

The Crusaders continue their conference campaign next Friday as they hit the road to take on Texas Lutheran.  Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 23.
