Comets Pull Away in 2nd Half to Defeat Crusaders

RICHARDSON, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team lost their non-conference matchup with the University of Texas at Dallas 3-1 Wednesday evening.

The first half was tight and could have easily gone either way.  The Crusaders started brightly and were far and away the more threatening team in the early stages.  Nevaeh Coronado nearly put UD up 1-0 in the 14th minute, but her low effort was saved by the keeper.  The ball wasn't cleared off the save, allowing Alyssa Mencacci to have an opportunity, but her shot was blocked on the goal line.  The Comets still couldn't clear their lines, giving Izzy Barajas one last opportunity to score from this run of play, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar.

Instead, the Comets would find the back of the net in the 23rd minute with their first shot on target.  The Crusaders would only carve out one more chance on goal the rest of the half, giving UTD the 1-0 lead at half time.

Mencacci leveled things up 13 minutes into the second half after linking up with Claire Reed and Britney Zapata, but the tie didn't last for long as the Comets answered right back less than a minute later to reclaim the lead.  They made it 3-1 eight minutes later, giviing the Crusaders 23 minutes to overcome the two goal deficit.

Barajas had a shot that sailed past the top left corner, and Mencacci worked the keeper again, but UD would not find the back of the net.
